socorro

Soccorro was born in the small town of Donalsonville Georgia, predestined to become a performer. After high school she matriculated at Florida A&M University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in music performance. That experience afforded her the opportunity to perform with such legendary artists as “The SOS Band”, “Keith Sweat”, “Kool and The Gang”, “Tony, Toni, Tone”, “George Clinton, “Kelly Price” and the list goes on and on. Soccorro’s musical style is a fusion of soul and rhythm and blues. Her vocals are silky smooth and potent enough to effect any listeners spirit. Soccorro was once asked why she pursued music as a career and her reply was “who would not want to make a career our of something they have so much passion for; music is my life.”

P.ROWE

P. Rowe was born and raised in the city of Fort Pierce, Fl.  At a very early age, his mother introduced him to music, and his love for music flourished in the Apostolic Church of Jesus.  By age 5 he became the lead drummer at the church, and often traveled with the choir.
Throughout high school, P. Rowe was a standout in the percussion section of the band.  He always knew he could sing too, but it wasn’t until his senior year that it was revealed to everyone else.
While attending Florida State University, P. Rowe made a name for himself throughout the college campus, performing in talent shows, step shows, etc.  It is also where he met MJ, TY and Kenny Shaw who both shared that same passion for music as he did, and who would later form Black Majik Productions (BMP).

After attending 2 years of college, P. Rowe decided to pursue a professional music career.  He performed monthly with the Phat Cat Soul assemble which was spearheaded by Danny Harris (CoCo Brown), where he polished his skills with a live band.  He later collaborated with Darius “Doc D” Baker and produced several songs which all received rave reviews locally.
While performing at the Florida A&M homecoming concert, P. Rowe caught his first major break.  He was flown to New York to sign his first major recording contract with Haqq Islam of University Music.  While at University Music P. Rowe became front man of the R&B group Prophet Jones.  Which brings us to now!  Black Majik Productions presents…. Yours Truly.

KENNY SHAW

Posted on 19 April 2009 by admin

Kenny always wrote poetry and he began to transform his poems into lyrics and songs. While at Florida State Kenny also met MJ and TY through P. Rowe and has been a long time member of the Black Majik family sense. Kenny was given the last name Shaw (his real last name isn’t even close) because as P. Rowe states “It fits” and its stuck ever sense then.

Kenny Shaw was born in Philly and moved to Altamonte Springs (suburb of Orlando, FL) where he spent most of his childhood.  So even though he’s a die-hard Eagles fan Kenny Shaw and was raised a Florida boy.  He attended Florida State where he met P. Rowe at a history class and their passion for music allowed them to form an instant connection.

Ken R.

Kontraband was born in the city of New Rochelle right outside of NYC.  He is a first generation American whose parents come from the countries of Jamaica and Trinidad.  His early musical influence was all the reggae and calypso his family rocked out to.  Being from NY Hip Hop was everywhere so he gravitated to the culture at an early age.  Upon completion of high school he joined the ARMY, which gave him a unique opportunity to see the world and experience many forms of musical culture.  It wasn’t until his college years that he began experimenting with music production.  His main form of production is software-based production.  His style can be considered formless like water mixed with a penchant for rule breaking.  While in Florida thru mutual friends Ken linked up with MJ and its been Black Majik in the building ever since.

MJ

Posted on 19 April 2009 by admin

MJ is a witty writer who takes his lyrics seriously yet knows how to have fun.  The self-taught musician is very versatile and doesn’t like to have any boundaries on anything that he does.   Being a true artist he does everything but sing (well) and loves to create.  He wrote and produced his own CD entitled Now Showing and is now working on the follow up.

The front man for Black Majik Productions, MJ holds the team together and helps get the creative juices going.  He’s been running BMP for years and is ready to take it to the next level.

MJ was born and raised in Pensacola Florida and always had a love for music since a young age.  His mom still tells the story of how he was singing before he was talking. While he was raised in the south MJ had love for East coast hip hop as apposed to the southern Bass music that was sweeping the south.  A late bloomer, MJ didn’t really pursue music seriously until he got into College.  Living on the same floor as P. Rowe and TY they quickly formed a bond that’s still alive today.
